S – A standardization technique used in lean
manufacturing. Visual control
JIT
– Just In Time. Backbone of the lean thinking. Every action
happens when they needed. No Inventory
Kaizen
– Continuous improvement in a continuous fashion.
Kanban
– simple technique used to indicate the requirements in
up production stream.
Pokayoke
– Also known as mistake proofing technique. Designing the
system so that there are no opportunities for errors.
Pull manufacturing
– Pulling the required output from the operation prior to
that. One cornerstones of inventory free manufacturing
SMED
– Single Minute Exchange of Dies. This is a technique developed
for the Toyota production system, in order to reduce its setup
times.
TAKT
– Term refer to the rhythm. This talks about the rhythm
at which system should operate. Simply this rhythm is determined
by customer demand and time available in production
TQM
– Total Quality Management. This is a very vast concept
covers all the aspects of manufacturing or services.
TPM –
Total Productive maintenance. A systematic approach to maintenance
function, aims ultimately in maintenance prevention of the system.
Value – what customer identifies as the
value of the product.
Value Stream – all the activities needed
to transform related input required to create a desired output.
Waste
– Anything or any activity that does not add value to the
final product.
Workcells
– cell like work area in which work is carried out by multi
skilled people.
