Histogram

Histograms are used to analyze the variations of data within intervals of variables. For an example a histogram can be used to analyze the quality variations for a particular product weekly. Ease of updating and maintaining and the very simple graphical representation of data are among the advantages of creating a histogram. Anyone can create a histogram using Microsoft excel.

We will take an example to understand histograms. A factory does a quality audit daily in its production facilities. They record the quality defects in every working module and the total qualities produced. With this information they analyze the variations of the quality defects weekly. Let’s assume they have collected below data

Week 1 – 14 defects
Week 2 – 16 defects
Week 3 – 15 defects
Week 4 – 18 defects

Histogram example

With this chart it is very easy to understand the variations of the quality defects with time.
