lean manufacturing concepts explained

Top to bottom Vs Bottom to top decision making

In a conventional decision making, managers and the other people in the top will make the decisions. People under them are supposed to work accordingly.
Making the decisions is one thing. Putting them in to work is another. Many of the times decision makers will face very high resistance in the process of implementing their decisions. Final result of this is very high failure rates, frustrated workers and management and plenty of conflicts, wasted time and money.

How about a structure where workers participate in decision making actively. Workers come up with creative ideas. They also participate actively in management decision making and goal setting. Workforce takes the lead in implementing their decisions.

Ere the decision making will be much more accurate since there are no guess work. No hidden agendas behind the decisions. People are respected by getting their participation actively. Also will not face resistance in implementing, since the workers them selves are part of the decisions.

Organic organizational structures, high worker participation enables this kind of decision making in lean organization. Lean manufacturing promotes bottom to top decision making and provides the necessary space to do so within itself.
