lean manufacturing concepts explained

Worker Vs Creative worker

Executives and the manager have to do the thinking and must set the goals. Workers must follow them and must make their higher officers dreams a reality. This is the exact way a traditional organization thinks about their workers and managers responsibilities. Managers are the thinkers and the people with the brains. So they do the thinking part for the organization. Workers are people with muscles and power. They will do the following the way their managers show them.

Think for a moment. Can you cook better tan your mom (Or wife if you are a guy). If you want to solve a problem regarding cooking, you will ask her. She will tell you how it is being done, what can cause what problem.

You can apply this to your organization. You ca be a manager or the CEO of the company. You will not understand the problems faced by your workers when they perform the job. You might be able to catch some of them. But definitely not all. Your worker knows the problems they face. Most probably they will know the answers for them as well. Simply do a trial. You will be amazed. Your workers have the brains. You have to utilize them. I am not telling that you should totally depend on them for the ideas and innovations. But your workers are the best source when to comes to solve your day to day problems.

In conventional type of manufacturing, you will to be able to use this knowledge to work. But lean manufacturing as a system identifies this very well. There is a systematic approach to get the ideas and expertise of the workers in to use. These ideas will be used to improve the system and the workers will be rewarded for their contribution. So there will be a double motivation for your workers to give their ideas away. Collection of the ideas may be carried out by means of an idea box.

Remember the most stupid of ideas can save you millions of money. You will see these ideas as stupid because you have never thought about it.
